Influencer marketing in Nagpur and Patna: two briefs, not one

Nagpur is a Marathi and Hindi hub with a manufacturing base and a medical campus. Patna is a Hindi market with Magahi at home, a coaching trade and Chhath. The census, the permissions and the dates that change a brief for each.

Nagpur and Patna as a ruled list: influencer marketing in two cities, briefed from Delhi NCR, vexo.club
Playbooks, from the vexo.club influencer marketing blog.
In this article12 sections

Brief Nagpur as a Marathi and Hindi market with a hub’s habits, and brief Patna as a Hindi market whose home speech is Magahi and whose loudest advertiser is the exam-coaching trade. Those two sentences change who you cast, what you may claim and when you shoot. The rest of this guide is the evidence for them: census language data, state and district records, the regulator’s rules for coaching advertising, and the festival dates of 2026.

Nagpur and Patna in five lines

In short

  1. Nagpur is a Marathi and Hindi market: write both languages into the brief, and expect the city to sell outward as much as inward.
  2. Patna is a Hindi market with Magahi at home. Bhojpuri and Maithili belong to other parts of Bihar.
  3. Nagpur’s commercial engines are food manufacture, the logistics and medical campus at MIHAN, the produce trade and the old market lanes.
  4. Patna’s loudest buyer is the coaching trade, and its advertising sits under a regulator’s 2024 guideline.
  5. The two hard dates of this season: Chhath in mid-November for Patna, the legislature’s winter session in December for Nagpur.

It draws on public sources as they stood between 21 and 24 October 2026. vexo.club runs from Delhi NCR and has no office in either city, so nothing below claims street-level knowledge. Where a source could not settle a question, the text says so instead of guessing.

Nagpur buys like a hub and Patna buys like a capital

Maharashtra Tourism’s own page for the district calls Nagpur the Orange City and the winter capital of the state, the seat of the legislature’s annual winter session. Patna is the capital of Bihar. That gives the two cities different kinds of buyer. A hub sells outward: its firms make things, move things and treat the city as a base. A capital sells upward and inward: it has the state’s departments, a coaching trade and every brand that wants to reach all of Bihar from one address. Neither city has a public register of who buys creator work, so what follows is a reading of the commercial record, not a census of advertisers.

Nagpur’s money: snacks, freight, a hospital campus and the old market lanes

The district administration’s economy page names the firms it counts as Nagpur’s: Haldiram’s, Dinshaw’s, Vicco, Baidyanath, Actchawa and Candico among the consumer names, with Hingna and Butibori as the industrial estates. It also names Sitabuldi, Itwari and Mahal as the market areas and Kalamna as a wholesale market for oranges and grains. The page is old in places, so read it as a map of names, not a current league table.

The useful reading for a brief is that manufacturers in Nagpur sell to the whole Hindi belt, not to the city. A snack or ayurvedic brand made here usually needs a campaign in Hindi for several states, which happens to be signed off in Nagpur. A retailer in the Sitabuldi lanes sells to Nagpur and the villages around it. Those are two briefs with different creators. Say which one you are writing.

The second engine is logistics and the campus around it. The Maharashtra Airport Development Company describes MIHAN as the country’s first multi-product special economic zone attached to an existing international airport, with space for aircraft maintenance, IT parks and hospitals. AIIMS Nagpur sits in the MIHAN area and calls itself a tertiary care and research hub for central India. A freight or SEZ-park brand sells to a short list of named buyers and belongs on LinkedIn rather than in a reel feed. A hospital, clinic or doctor-led brand has a different constraint, the medical council’s rules, set out in advertising guidelines for doctors, influencers and brands.

The third is oranges, and here a claim is on the record. Nagpur Orange is a registered geographical indication: application 385 on the registry shows the certificate dated 31 March 2014, valid to 2032, and a geographical area that spans Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The registry also lists authorised users by name. A juice, squash or snack brand that lets a creator say “Nagpur orange” in a script is making a claim about sourcing. Ask what the product is actually made from and what the label is allowed to say before the script is written.

Last, tourism. The Times of India has described Nagpur as the gateway to the region’s tiger reserves. A lodge or safari brand wants a creator who is already travelling that route, and a Nagpur postcode is not the point. The brief for that kind of client is in travel and hospitality brands.

Patna’s money: the coaching belt, makhana and everyone selling to Bihar

NDTV’s Hindi desk calls Patna Bihar’s largest coaching hub and quotes market estimates for the number of institutes and the size of the trade. Those estimates come from media reports and not from a register, so this guide prints none of them. What is safe to say is that the trade is large and concentrated in a handful of localities (Kankarbagh, Boring Road and Musallahpur Hat are the ones local guides name), and that it is the trade whose advertising the central regulator has had to write rules for.

The second Patna buyer is any brand that needs Bihar. In the desk’s reading, which is an inference and not a published fact, FMCG, two-wheelers, finance and retail chains treat Patna as the place from which to reach a state of many districts and several languages. For them the city is a casting office and the audience lives elsewhere, which is why the language section below matters. The third is the food trade built on Bihar’s own produce. Mithila Makhana is a registered geographical indication, so a makhana snack brand faces the same sourcing question as an orange one: what the label may say about origin.

Marathi, Hindi, Magahi: what the census says before you cast

The language question is where a generic city brief fails first. In Nagpur district, the 2011 census found Marathi the first language of seven in ten people and Hindi of nearly two in ten, with Urdu next. That is the district. The city is likely more mixed than the countryside, and the published table does not split it.

Hindi17.89 % of population
Urdu4.2 % of population

The district, not the city. Shares as set out by the Centre for Knowledge Alternatives at FLAME University from the 2011 census.

The texture matters more than the split. Nagpuri Marathi borrows Hindi words freely. The Centre for Knowledge Alternatives gives the example of capsicum, which a Pune speaker calls dhobli mirchi and a Nagpur speaker calls simla mirchi, the Hindi term. A script written in Pune or Mumbai Marathi can read as imported to a Nagpur audience, and a Hindi-only script leaves out the seven in ten who name Marathi first. The sensible default is a creator who moves between the two the way the city does. Write “Marathi and Hindi, as spoken in Nagpur” rather than “regional”.

The languages a Nagpur brief has to name

Nagpur set large with four language chips: Marathi, Hindi, Nagpuri Marathi and Urdu, for an influencer brief

Patna is the surprise. The district administration’s demography page says the native dialect is Magahi and that Bhojpuri, Hindi and Maithili are also spoken widely. The census table shows why. Magahi is the first language of almost half of Patna district, and Hindi of nearly as many. Bhojpuri comes in under three in a hundred, and Maithili near one.

The district, not the city. Mother tongue as people named it to the census taker; many Magahi speakers say Hindi.

There is a catch, and it cuts the other way. Wikipedia’s account of the languages of Bihar notes that educated speakers often name Hindi to the census even when their home speech is a regional language. So the Hindi share is probably a ceiling and the Magahi share a floor. The conclusion that survives is plain. Patna’s everyday audience is Hindi on screen and Magahi at home. Bhojpuri is the speech of districts to the west, such as Bhojpur, Saran and Rohtas, and Maithili of the north. A Patna brief that asks for Bhojpuri because Bihar is Bhojpuri country is aimed at the wrong city.

The languages of Patna district, as the census names them

The platforms will not rescue a wrong language choice. YouTube’s automatic dubbing help page, as of 24 October 2026, lists Hindi as a source that can be dubbed into Bengali and English only. It lists no dubbing from or into Marathi, Bhojpuri, Maithili or Magahi. Meta announced reel translation into Marathi on Instagram and Facebook in November 2025 and January 2026, and it did not name the Bihar languages. A Marathi and a Bhojpuri cut are two recordings by two people. When one claim has to run in several languages, the four-language launch guide covers approvals.

Shooting in Nagpur: the lanes, the lake and the heat

Nagpur’s centre is built around Sitabuldi Fort, with the old city to the east and the colonial quarter to the west, according to Incredible India. The shoot map follows: market lanes at Sitabuldi and Itwari for retail and food, Futala Lake for evening light, Deekshabhoomi for the city’s Buddhist heritage, the Ramtek temples outside town.

The state’s single-window system for film shoots works for the locations a department has listed on the Maharashtra Film Cell portal. For anywhere not listed there, or where filming is restricted by law, the Directorate of Archaeology’s own page says separate permission is needed from the organisation that owns the place. A phone reel in a public lane is not a film production. A crewed shoot at a government building, a heritage site or a metro station is, and the first thing to settle is who owns it.

Two Maharashtra-specific points are easy to miss. First, Section 36A of the state’s shops and establishments law requires a shop’s name board to carry the name in Marathi, in Devanagari script, with the Marathi not smaller than any other language. The Bombay High Court upheld the rule in February 2022, and a store-visit shoot at your own outlet should show a compliant board. Second, the heat. The district’s climate page puts the summer from March to June, calls May the hottest month and records 48.6 degrees on 29 May 2012. Food, beverage and outdoor product shoots should be in the can before April.

For drones, the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s airspace map for drone operations sorts the country into green, yellow and red zones. Nagpur has an international airport with MIHAN beside it, and the district’s own list of industry includes an ordnance factory. Look up the exact spot before a drone shot is promised in a brief.

Shooting in Patna: the maidan, the ghats and the old city

Patna runs along the Ganga. Incredible India describes a British-planned west with its administrative buildings and an old city to the east of crowded lanes and bazaars, and calls the Golghar, built in 1786, the city’s signature landmark. Local press names Gandhi Maidan, Patna Junction, Dak Bungalow and Marine Drive as places film crews have worked. Takht Sri Harimandir Ji, Patna Sahib, is the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh and one of the five Takhts of Sikhism, as the Bihar tourism department’s page for the shrine sets out. That page lists mobile phones and cameras as allowed. That is a visitor rule, not a licence for a branded shoot, so ask the management in writing and agree what the frame will not show.

For crewed work the state has a body: the Bihar State Film Development and Finance Corporation, at Morisson Building near Golghar, which runs the Bihar Film Promotion Policy 2024. The Times of India reports that 48 projects had been cleared under it: feature films, documentaries and a web series. The Corporation’s permission form asks for a production house registration, a title registration and a synopsis of at least 500 words. It is written for films. The desk found no published route for a branded reel or an advertising shoot, and an undated local news report says a single-window system was still being prepared. Write to the Corporation, describe the shoot in two lines and keep the answer.

The Ganga ghats are a different matter in November. Local reports on the March 2026 Chaiti Chhath describe the district administration publishing a list of ghats it marks as dangerous and suspending boat operations for the festival days. A brief should tell creators not to film from boats.

Before the camera comes out in either city

  • Name the owner of the location: a trust, a corporation, a department or a private shop.
  • In Maharashtra, check whether the Film Cell portal lists the place. If it does not, ask the owner directly.
  • In Bihar, write to the Bihar State Film Development and Finance Corporation and keep the reply.
  • At a religious site, ask the management in writing and agree what the frame will not show.
  • Look up the drone airspace on the Digital Sky map before a drone is booked.
  • At your own Maharashtra outlet, check the name board shows the shop name in Marathi in Devanagari script.
None of these needs an agency. All of them are quicker before the creator has travelled.

The dates that set a Nagpur or Patna year

This season’s Dussehra has passed, and the two dates that cost the most are still ahead: Chhath and the winter session. The rest of the year is mostly weather and crops.

The dates that set a Nagpur or Patna year

MonthOn the calendar
FebruaryNagpur: the mrig orange crop The National Horticulture Board says this monsoon-blossom crop matures in February and March.
MayNagpur: peak heat The district’s own climate page names May the hottest month. Shoot exteriors at dawn or not at all.
SeptemberNagpur: Pola, then Marbat A street festival of the old city, held the day after Pola. Narrow lanes and thick crowds.
OctoberDussehra week in both cities Lakhs gather at Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur on Dhammachakra Pravartan Din. Gandhi Maidan in Patna holds the Dussehra festivities. The date follows Vijayadashami.
NovemberPatna: Chhath, 13 to 16 November The evening offering falls on Sunday 15 November. The Sonepur fair follows on Kartik Purnima, 24 November.
DecemberWinter session and book fair The Maharashtra legislature sits in Nagpur from 7 December. The Patna book fair runs at Gandhi Maidan from 4 to 15 December.
Festival dates follow the panchang and the administration. Check each against the current official notice before you lock a shoot.

Creator calendars in the second week of November are likely to be full, so a Chhath-adjacent brief should be approved before the festival fortnight begins. Wedding dates, which also reshape both calendars, are in the wedding-season guide. From 7 December the Maharashtra legislature sits in Nagpur, per the Times of India. Expect ministers, officials and the press to share its roads and hotels. That is an inference, not a published figure, but it is the safe assumption for a location booking.

Chhath is not a sale

The Hindu has called Chhath Bihar’s biggest festival. Devotees, mostly women known as vratins, keep a strict fast, and the offerings are to the setting and the rising sun on the river bank. Published panchang listings put the four days of 2026 from Friday 13 to Monday 16 November, with the evening offering on Sunday the 15th. Check that against Bihar’s official holiday list before you plan around it.

A brand can belong in that fortnight, but only in the way it belongs at any family event: as something in the house, never as a joke on the ritual or a discount banner at the ghat. Keep scripts free of puns on the observance, do not film worshippers at the water without consent, and do not stage a product at the ghat during the offerings. The safer territory is the kitchen and the gift: fruit, utensils, clothing, travel home. Let someone who observes it approve the cut.

The rulebook a Patna coaching brief has to clear

Coaching is Patna’s most visible advertiser, and the one with a regulator’s guideline written for it. The Central Consumer Protection Authority issued its Guidelines for Prevention of Misleading Advertisement in Coaching Sector, 2024 in November 2024, and the PIB’s summary says they prohibit false claims about courses, duration, faculty, fees and refunds, and about selection rates, success stories, rankings and job promises. It adds that a coaching centre may not use a student’s name, photo or testimonial without written consent, and that the consent must be obtained after the student has succeeded. The Ministry of Education’s January 2024 guidelines for coaching centres are separate, and the press reported that they bar misleading promises, guarantees of rank or marks, and the enrolment of students below sixteen. Read the current texts before you rely on them.

For a creator brief this means three things. A creator may not say that a course guarantees a rank. A topper’s face on a reel needs a written consent dated after the result. And a claim of the form “most of our students crack it” needs data the institute can show. The sector’s wider rules are in education technology influencer marketing, and the labelling every paid post needs is in ASCI’s disclosure rules for brands.

What a coaching brief in Patna can and cannot say

Do and do not pairs for coaching advertising: terms not ranks, consent after the result, data not implication

What no public source settles

The desk looked for a count of creators in either city, a split of the creator trade by language and a rate card by city, and found nothing it would stand behind. So this guide gives no creator headcount, no named local talent and no city price.

Two claims you will meet on agency pages are also unsupported. One is that Patna’s everyday content runs in a Bhojpuri register, which the census table above does not bear out. The other is that Patna’s digital audience is fast-growing, said with a number attached and no source for it. The one piece of generic advice that stands for both cities is the old one: ask for the audience’s location from the creator’s own analytics before you cast on a postcode. How to read that export is in checking an influencer’s audience.

What a brief for each city has to say

Put the difference on the page. The split below is the short form, and the two paragraphs after it are ready to paste into a brief, with the brackets filled.

What changes in the brief, city by city

Nagpur

  • Name the language: Marathi, Hindi, or the Nagpuri mix of both.
  • Say whether the buyer is the city or the Vidarbha belt.
  • If the product is orange-based, say what the label may claim.
  • Say whether the post feeds a national campaign made in Nagpur.
  • Book exteriors before the heat and outside the legislature session.

Patna

  • Cast for the audience, not for a Bhojpuri stereotype.
  • Say which Bihar: Patna and the Magadh belt, the west, or the north.
  • For education brands, write every claim to the 2024 guideline.
  • Treat Chhath as a devotional fortnight, not a sales window.
  • Ask the permission office in writing and keep the reply.
Each line is a sentence the brief should carry that a generic city brief would not.

For Nagpur: “The audience is [the city of Nagpur or the Vidarbha belt]. The post runs in [Marathi, Hindi or the Nagpur mix of both], recorded by someone who speaks it. Exteriors are shot before [month] and are not booked in the week the legislature sits. If the product references Nagpur oranges, the label’s sourcing statement is attached before the script is approved.”

For Patna: “The audience is [Patna and the Magadh belt, western Bihar or northern Bihar]. The post runs in Hindi, with a [Magahi, Bhojpuri or Maithili] line only if the creator speaks it natively. No claim of rank, selection or result is used without a check against the 2024 guideline and written consent dated after the result. Nothing publishes between 13 and 16 November unless the creative has been cleared by someone who observes Chhath.”

Questions brands ask

Which language should a Nagpur influencer campaign use, Marathi or Hindi? Usually both, in the mix the city speaks. The 2011 census puts Marathi first for seven in ten people in Nagpur district, and Nagpuri Marathi borrows Hindi words freely.

Is Bhojpuri the main language in Patna? No. The census shows Magahi and Hindi as the first languages of about nine in ten people in Patna district, with Bhojpuri under three in a hundred. Bhojpuri belongs more to the western districts and Maithili to the north, so write Hindi for the city and choose a regional line by where the product sells.

When is Chhath Puja in 2026 and should brands advertise around it? Calendar listings put it from 13 to 16 November, with the main evening offering on 15 November. Brands can appear as gifting or travel, not as a sale on a religious observance. Check the dates against Bihar’s official list.

Do I need permission to shoot a reel in Patna or at a Nagpur landmark? A phone reel in a public place is not a film production, but a crewed shoot is, and the owner of the place decides. In Maharashtra the Film Cell portal covers the locations that departments have listed. In Bihar the film corporation is the body to write to. Religious sites need the management’s written consent.

Can a Patna coaching institute show topper photos and results in influencer videos? Only with the student’s written consent obtained after the result, and only if the claim is true and provable. The CCPA’s 2024 guidelines bar misleading claims on selection, rank and success stories. Put the evidence in the brief.

Can a brand say Nagpur orange in an ad? The name is a registered geographical indication, and the registry lists authorised users. A brand using the words should check what its product is made from and what its label can truthfully say. Do that before a creator reads the line aloud.

Does the agency or the creator have to be based in Nagpur or Patna? No. A creator’s city says little about where their viewers live, and the analytics export shows that. vexo.club is a Delhi NCR desk with no office in either city, and any on-ground need is scoped and quoted before work starts. If a local creator is the right fit, the audience data will show it.

What time of year should a Nagpur shoot avoid? The peak of summer, because the district’s own page puts May as the hottest month, and the week the legislature sits from 7 December for any location near government buildings. Dussehra week at Deekshabhoomi is a pilgrimage crowd, not a backdrop.

To brief either city, use the contact page and send the audience, the language, the dates and the claim you need to make.
