Stand-up comedians in India perform in Hindi, English and regional languages including Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Bengali, and the useful way to sort them for a brand is by language and format, not by a ranked list. Comedy is the one creator category where a single sentence can end a campaign, so the order of work for a brand is the same in every language: review the material, review the news, then talk about the integration.

This guide comes from vexo.club, an influencer marketing agency run from one desk in Delhi NCR. It names few public comedians and says why: it names a person only where their own site or official channel says what they do, and only after a check of current news for open complaints. If you searched for a list of stand up comedians with names and numbers, search already returns plenty. This page is for the brand deciding whether and how to book one.

**In short: What a brand needs to know about stand-up**

1. Stand-up comedians in India perform in Hindi, English and regional languages; sort them by language and format, not by a ranked list.
2. Comedy is the one creator category where a single sentence can end a campaign, so the order of work is the same in every language: review the material, review the news, then talk about the integration.
3. The less a format is scripted, the less a brand can approve in advance, and crowd work cannot be scripted at all.
4. A paid skit is advertising and carries the ASCI label on the video itself, early and readable.

## Who are the stand-up comedians in India?

They are performers who write and deliver their own sets, live in clubs, theatres and festivals and online as specials and clips. Stand-up now has working circuits in several languages, not only English and Hindi. Standup comedy in India started in English in the metros; Hindi, Marathi, Tamil and others have since built their own rooms and their own audiences.

For a brand, a comedian is two things at once: a creator with an online audience, and a live performer whose words are unscripted from the brand's side. The first is checked like any creator, through the audience. The second is why comedy needs its own review, set out below.

The map below is by language, because language, not the comedian's city, decides who laughs. It records where each circuit works and what the desk does about it. It carries no counts and no ranking.

**Figure: Stand-up by language: where it works and how the desk handles a brief**

| | Where the live rooms are | Named on this page | Brief rule |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| English | The metros and the diaspora | Yes, two | Metro, salaried, online buyer; clips travel fast |
| Hindi | Everywhere, live and digital | No | Largest audience, so the news check is run twice |
| Marathi | Pune and Mumbai | Yes, one | Script written in Marathi, not translated |
| Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada | Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Bengaluru | No | One language per script; political material read first |
| Bengali | Kolkata | No | Cast case by case, news check on each name |

*Cities are where the live rooms are, not where the audience lives. Online, every language travels.*

## Who are the top 10 stand-up comedians in India, or the famous and best ones?

There is no official ranking, so any top 10 or best stand-up comedian in India list reflects its writer's taste or a count on one day. This page does not rank, and it types no audience counts, which move daily; the one table of channels further down reads each count from YouTube and dates it. Where the question is about counts, the live figure is on the comedian's own YouTube channel page, and Social Blade publishes the history.

Famous and right for a brief are different questions. A comedian can be known to every viewer of a streaming special and still be wrong for a brand whose product the comedian's audience will never buy, or whose last live set carries a line the brand cannot stand beside. The brief decides the shortlist, and the shortlist is judged on four things: the language the audience actually uses, the format the comedian works in, what the audience does after a set, and what the comedian has said in public.

**Figure: What a shortlist of stand-up comedians is judged on**

Four numbered points a brand judges stand-up comedians in India on: language, format, what the audience does, public record

## Who is named on this page, and why so few?

Each named comedian below passed two tests. The first is a source: the comedian's own website, which says what they do, in which language and from where. The second is a news check, run on 6 October 2026, for any complaint, FIR, court order or pending matter. Several widely known names did not pass the first test, because they publish no site of their own, or failed the second, and the desk would rather name three people it can stand behind than a long list it cannot.

**Figure: What a name needs before this page prints it**

- A source the comedian controls: their own site or official channel page, not a fan page or a profile aggregator.
- The language and the city, as the comedian states them.
- A current news search for complaints, FIRs, court orders and platform strikes.
- No open matter. A closed or old one is read, not ignored, and the brand is told.
- No typed audience count, no ranking, no earnings figure, and no claim that the comedian works with the desk.

*The same two tests apply to a comedian a brand proposes. The check is repeated at contract and again before posting.*

## Which stand-up comedians perform in English?

English-language stand-up is the oldest circuit, with the largest audience in the metros and among the diaspora. Two comedians who describe themselves on their own sites fit here. [Atul Khatri](https://www.atulkhatri.com) describes himself on his site as a Mumbai-based businessman who took up English stand-up comedy late in life. [Kanan Gill](https://www.kanangill.com/about) describes himself as a writer and comedian, and his site lists specials on Netflix and Prime Video and a novel, Acts of God.

## Which stand-up comedians perform in Hindi, and what about Hindi comedy online?

Hindi is the largest comedy audience in the country, split between live rooms and the digital creators who make comedy in Hindi without ever taking a stage. None of the Hindi stand-up comedians the desk checked for this page met both tests, so none is named. That is a finding, not a gap: material that travels widely is quoted widely, so the news check is most likely to turn something up here.

## Which South Indian stand-up comedians work in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada?

Each of the four languages has its own live circuit, its own cities and its own comedy vocabulary, and a Tamil set does not translate into Kannada. Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kochi are the working bases. A brief for a South market needs a comedian who performs in the language, and the script is written in that language, not translated into it. The desk's notes on [regional launches in four languages](https://vexo.club/blog/regional-launch-four-languages) and on [South Indian influencers](https://vexo.club/blog/south-indian-influencers) set out casting, scripting and approvals when one claim has to survive more than one language.

None of the South Indian comedians the desk looked at cleared both tests for this page, so none is named. One reason belongs in the guide. In April 2026, as [The Wire reported](https://thewire.in/rights/andhra-police-detain-second-comedian-in-two-days-over-jokes-on-pawan-kalyan), Andhra Pradesh police detained two stand-up comedians within days of each other over jokes about the state's deputy chief minister. Political and regional material carries a different legal risk from observational comedy, and a brand booking in that scene should read the set list before the date, not after.

## Which stand-up comedians perform in Marathi and Bengali?

Marathi stand-up has its own working circuit, centred on Pune and Mumbai. [Mandar Bhide](https://mandarbhide.com) is a Pune stand-up comedian who, according to his own site, performs in Marathi, Hindi, English and Gujarati, and keeps a YouTube channel. A comedian who moves between four languages is useful for a brief that wants one script adapted across states, with the adaptation written by the performer.

Bengali stand-up is smaller and mostly lives in Kolkata's club and café rooms. As with the South, no Bengali comedian cleared both tests for this page.

## What formats do stand-up comedians work in?

Four, and each carries a different kind of risk for a brand. A special is a written and edited hour, released once. A live room is a set in front of an audience, different every night. Crowd work is improvised talk with the audience, and it cannot be scripted. Sketch crossover is a comedian making short scripted videos, which looks like stand-up and works like any digital creator's content.

**Figure: What each stand-up format gives a brand, and what it cannot**

| | Can the brand read it first? | Where it lives | Main risk |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Special | Yes, in full | Streaming or YouTube, once | A line already written that no one has checked against the brand |
| Live room | The set list, not the night | A venue and a clip afterwards | A clip taken out of context, with the brand's name beside it |
| Crowd work | No | The room, then the feed | An audience member's remark that goes viral |
| Sketch crossover | Yes, as a script | Instagram and YouTube | Reads as an ad; ASCI label needed in the frame |

*The less a format is scripted, the less a brand can approve in advance. That, not the comedian's name, sets the contract.*

Crowd work needs the plainest rule in the brief: a brand does not sponsor a set it cannot review, and does not sponsor the audience's lines at all. In 2026 an audience member's anecdote at a live show in Gurugram led to an FIR naming both the audience member and the comedian, as [ETV Bharat reported](https://www.etvbharat.com/en/bharat/fir-against-stand-up-comedian-praneet-more-one-other-over-rs-370-biryani-row-enn26061700546). The comedian had not written that line, and the FIR followed the show anyway. Sponsorship follows the stage, not the script.

**Figure: The plainest rule for sponsoring a stand-up set**

## What does a brand check before booking a stand-up comedian?

Four checks, in this order. They apply to every language and every format, and the first three should be finished before any rate is discussed.

1. **The material.** Read the specials and the last ten minutes of recent sets. Anything the brand would not say in its own voice is a conversation to have before the contract.
2. **The news.** Search for complaints, FIRs, court orders and any platform action, and repeat the search the week the post goes live. An open matter ends the conversation; a closed one is disclosed to the brand and read.
3. **The audience.** Comedy audiences are young and share easily, and the audience check applies as it does to any creator; the method is in [how to check an influencer's audience before you pay](https://vexo.club/blog/checking-an-influencers-audience).
4. **The script.** Any scripted integration goes to the brand in writing before filming, and the contract names who approves the final cut.

Laid out as a sequence, the review is five steps, and the news search appears twice.

**Figure: The brand-safety review for a stand-up booking**

1. Read the material — Specials and recent sets, against the brand's own voice
2. Search the news — Complaints, FIRs, court orders, platform actions
3. Check the audience — Language, geography and fit before a fee
4. Approve the script — In writing, before filming
5. Search again — The week the post goes live

*The first three steps finish before a rate is discussed.*

## How are comedian integrations briefed and approved?

An integration is a short, scripted segment placed inside the comedian's own video or set. It succeeds when it sounds like the comedian and fails when it sounds like the brand. The brief therefore gives the comedian the product truths and the lines that cannot be said, and leaves the joke to the person who writes jokes for a living. [Briefing a creator so you only need one revision](https://vexo.club/blog/briefing-a-creator) sets out the four-line format the desk uses.

The approval is by script, not by taste. The brand approves what is claimed about the product, the comedian approves how it is said, and the desk reads the draft for the ASCI label before either signs off. A brand that tries to approve the joke itself gets a worse joke and a comedian who stops answering.

The route from brief to live post is short, and every step has a named owner.

**Figure: How a comedian integration moves from brief to post**

1. Brief — Product truths and the lines that cannot be said
2. Script — Written by the comedian, in the audience's language
3. Claim and label check — Brand reads the claim; desk reads the ASCI label
4. Approval — Not given until the label is seen
5. Live and review — A check in the first day after posting

*The brand owns the claim, the comedian owns the joke, the desk owns the label check.*

## How does ASCI disclosure work inside a comedy skit?

A paid skit is an advertisement, and it carries the label even if it is funny, and even if the product appears for four seconds. The Advertising Standards Council of India's [influencer guidelines](https://www.ascionline.in/social/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/ASCI-Influencer-Guidelines.pdf) ask for the label to be upfront and prominent, so that an average viewer does not miss it, and superimposed on the video where a post has no text. So the label goes on the video itself, early and readable, and in the first lines of the caption. A label hidden in a block of hashtags, or placed after the punchline, is a label that was not applied.

**Figure: Labelling and approving a comedy skit**

| Do | Don’t | Note |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Put the label on the video itself, early and readable, and in the first lines of the caption | Hide it in a block of hashtags or place it after the punchline | |
| Say the label aloud in the comedian's own voice, or build the frame so it reads as part of the set-up | Leave it out because it spoils the joke | |
| Approve by script: the brand approves the claim, the comedian approves how it is said | Approve the joke yourself | A brand that tries gets a worse joke and a comedian who stops answering. |

*The label feels like it spoils the joke. The answer is craft, not omission.*

Comedy has a particular problem here: the disclosure feels like it spoils the joke. The answer is craft, not omission. A comedian can say the label aloud in their own voice, or build the frame so it reads as part of the set-up. The desk's full outline of who labels what, and who checks, is in [ASCI disclosure for brands](https://vexo.club/blog/asci-disclosure-rules-for-brands).

## Live-show sponsorship or digital integration: which should a brand buy?

They buy different things. A live-show sponsorship buys a place in a room, on a poster and in a venue's promotion, and nothing about what is said on stage. A digital integration buys a segment in a video that can be reviewed, labelled and amplified. A brand that wants to be associated with a comedian's name chooses the first; a brand that wants a viewer to act chooses the second.

**Figure: Two ways to buy a comedian, and what each leaves open**

| | Live-show sponsorship | Digital integration |
| --- | --- | --- |
| What it buys | Venue presence, signage and a place in the show's promotion | A scripted segment the brand can read before it is filmed |
| Can it be approved in advance? | No | Yes |
| What travels afterwards | Clips from the night, without the room around them | The ASCI label is checked in the draft and again after posting |
| Rights | — | Usage and whitelisting rights are priced separately |
| Best for | A brand that wants to be associated with a comedian's name | A brand that wants a viewer to act |

*Neither option makes a comedian's words the brand's words. The contract says who is responsible when they are not.*

On YouTube the same split appears as an integration inside a video versus a dedicated video; the [teardown of both formats](https://vexo.club/blog/youtube-integration-or-dedicated-video) covers when each fits. For comedy, the dedicated video is usually the wrong buy, because an audience that came to laugh resists an advertisement that runs the whole length.

## Which comedy creators does vexo.club have on its roster?

The roster's Comedy & Entertainment creators below are all on Instagram, and most are also on YouTube. None is recorded as a stand-up comedian, and the desk does not describe them as one. Each is an independent creator the desk collaborates with brief by brief, and management stays with the creator. The details below come only from their roster records.

- [Harsh Beniwal](https://vexo.club/roster/harshbeniwal), Delhi, Instagram and YouTube: a creator and actor known for comedy, relatable storytelling, entertainment content and digital series.
- [Raj Grover](https://vexo.club/roster/rajgrover_in), Delhi, Instagram and YouTube: a comedy creator known for relatable humour and everyday-life storytelling.
- [Anoop Masterji](https://vexo.club/roster/anoopmasterji), Delhi, Instagram and YouTube: a digital creator known for entertainment, lifestyle and personality-driven short-form video.
- [Sourav Joshi](https://vexo.club/roster/souravjoshivlogs), Haldwani, creating in English and Hindi, on Instagram and YouTube: known for daily-life storytelling, family content, travel and lifestyle vlogs.
- [Aarush Bhola](https://vexo.club/roster/aarushbhola17), Delhi, Instagram and YouTube, listed under Comedy & Entertainment.
- [Lovekesh Kataria](https://vexo.club/roster/corrupt_tuber), Haryana, on Instagram.

The full set sits on the [comedy and entertainment page of the roster](https://vexo.club/roster/niche/comedy-and-entertainment), and a brief that names a roster creator goes through the desk, which takes it to the creator or their management, who confirm availability and terms. For a brief in the capital region, the desk's page on [influencer marketing in Delhi](https://vexo.club/influencer-marketing-company/delhi) covers the city.

## What should a brand put in the contract for a comedian?

Four clauses carry most of the weight, and the desk's [influencer contract clauses](https://vexo.club/blog/influencer-contract-clauses) cover the rest.

- **Script approval.** Which segments the brand reads, in what form, and by when.
- **A morals and content clause.** What happens to the booking and the fee if a complaint, FIR or order arises before posting, and who decides whether the post stays up.
- **Disclosure.** The ASCI label, where it sits, and the right to a draft.
- **Usage.** What the brand may do with the clip, for how long, and whether it may run it as an ad; the answer is in [usage rights](https://vexo.club/blog/usage-rights).

## Questions brands ask

**Who is the best stand-up comedian in India?** There is no official ranking, and any list that claims one reflects taste or a count on one day. The useful question is which comedian suits a brief: the language of the audience, the format, and a clean news check on the day of the contract.

**Who are the famous stand-up comedians in India?** Fame is public; suitability is a brief. This guide names comedians only where their own site says what they do and a news check is clean, which today covers English and Marathi stand-up, and it leaves the rest to a case-by-case check.

**Can a brand sponsor a live stand-up show?** Yes, and it buys venue presence, not the comedian's words. Because the set cannot be approved in advance, the brief names what the brand will not sit beside, and the contract says what happens if a clip circulates that the brand cannot stand next to.

**Does a comedy skit need an ASCI label?** Yes, if it is paid or the brand has any material connection to it, including free product. The label goes on the video, early and readable, and in the first lines of the caption, and the desk reads each draft for it before approval.

**Does vexo.club have stand-up comedians on its roster?** No stand-up comedian is recorded on the roster. Its Comedy & Entertainment creators are described above from their records, and a stand-up brief is cast to the brief, with the news check done on every name proposed.
