To become a brand ambassador, keep to one niche, show a brand your own audience data, pitch brands whose customers watch you, and agree the terms in writing. A brand picks an ambassador for fit and for a record of delivering what was agreed, and the follower count only opens the door.

This guide is written for creators, and it comes from vexo.club — an influencer marketing agency run from one desk in Delhi NCR that books creators to briefs for brands. It says how the desk chooses creators at the end. Nothing in it promises a deal or an income: ambassadorships are agreed brand by brand, in writing, and a page cannot guarantee one.

**Becoming a brand ambassador, in short**

1. An ambassador is a creator a brand works with over time, not for a single post. Brands use the word loosely, so ask what the role covers.
2. Brands read audience fit, a steady niche and a record of delivering on time, before they read your follower count.
3. Bring your own exports, not screenshots, and pitch a few brands that fit rather than many that do not.
4. Agree the terms in writing, and label every paid post, ambassador posts included.

## What is a brand ambassador?

A brand ambassador is a creator who represents a brand over a period, in a series of posts and often across campaigns, rather than in one sponsored post. There is no legal definition, so the word covers a lot of ground, from three posts across a season to a year-long relationship. In India the phrase "brand promoter" is also used, sometimes for a person who promotes a product in person at a store or an event. This guide is about creators who work online, and the first question to ask any brand is what the role actually covers.

**Figure: From one post to an ambassador**

*One post to An ongoing role*

- **At One post** — A one-off sponsored post — One brief, one deliverable, one payment.
- **Leans One post** — A short series for one launch — A few posts across a campaign window.
- **Leans An ongoing role** — A repeat partner across campaigns — The same creator is booked again, brief after brief.
- **At An ongoing role** — A brand ambassador — A named, ongoing role, with its own written terms.

*The desk's working scale. Brands use "ambassador" for any of these, so the contract says which one is meant.*

## What do brands look for in an ambassador?

Brands look for the same few things, and they check them before they open a conversation. The audience should be the people who buy the product, in the right cities and languages. The niche should be steady, so the brand's name sits beside content that is already yours. The record should show posts delivered on the date and labelled properly, and the account should be clean: real followers, replies that read like people. A brand also asks what you will not endorse, because an ambassador who is already tied to a rival in the category is a conflict.

**Figure: What a brand reads before it says yes**

- Who watches: age, city and language, from your own analytics
- A steady niche: your last ten posts look like one voice
- A real audience: replies from accounts with histories, a follower curve that climbs in steps
- A delivery record: posts on the agreed date, with the label in place
- Your other brand ties, stated before the brand has to ask
- What you will not endorse, in a sentence

*The creator's side of the audience check. The brand's side is in how to check an influencer's audience before you pay.*

Brands read the audience from exports, not from screenshots. Meta's own [advice to creators](https://creators.instagram.com/earn-money/branded-content) is to give a brand data such as followers, average likes, views, comments and shares to justify a rate. The desk's guide to [reading a media kit](https://vexo.club/blog/reading-a-media-kit) lists the four exports a brand asks for, and a creator who has them ready is a step ahead of one who does not.

**Figure: Exports, not screenshots**

## How do you become a brand ambassador, step by step?

In six steps, none of which needs an agency. The order matters, because the first three make the rest easy. Skipping to the pitch with no exports and no niche is the usual reason a message gets no reply.

**Figure: Six steps to a first ambassador deal**

1. Pick a niche — One you can keep making content in for a year
2. Build a record — Content that shows how you actually use the category
3. Pull your numbers — The platform's own exports, for the last ninety days
4. Make a media kit — One page: who watches, what you make, what you will not do
5. Pitch a few brands — Through the contact on their profile or their manager, with a specific idea
6. Agree it in writing — Scope, term, usage, exclusivity, payment and the label

*The desk's outline. No step guarantees a deal.*

A one-page media kit has five parts: who watches you, by age, city and language; what you make, with a few links; your delivery record, meaning posts on time and labelled; what you will not do; and a contact. It promises no results. It says what a brand can check, and the numbers in it come from your own exports.

Pitch the brand's marketing contact or its agency, not the general inbox, and keep the message to four lines: who you are, who watches, one idea for the brand and what you would want to be paid in. Choose brands whose product you already use, because an ambassadorship you cannot say honestly is hard to keep up past the second post. The same four lines work for [barter collaborations](https://vexo.club/blog/barter-collaboration-instagram), where the pay is a product and the terms are shorter.

## How do you become a brand ambassador on Instagram?

The platform adds a few steps of its own. Meta's [eligibility page](https://help.instagram.com/1372533836927082) says an account must be an Instagram professional account to use the branded content tools, must follow Meta's community standards, and must have an authentic, established presence and a sufficient follower base. It gives no number for that last part, so no figure here is a threshold. Meta also describes a creator marketplace where creators join from their professional dashboard in the Instagram app, can say which brands and interests they care about, and can build a portfolio, in its [announcement](https://about.fb.com/news/2024/02/creator-marketplace-for-brands-and-creators-to-collaborate-on-instagram/). Whether your account has access is shown inside the app.

**Figure: On Instagram: what you set up, and what you settle with the brand**

*Yours to set up before you pitch*

- A professional account
- Branded content tools switched on, if you are eligible
- A portfolio or media kit that shows your own numbers

*Settled with the brand, in writing*

- How the paid partnership label is added and approved
- Whether the brand may run your posts as ads, and for how long
- What you will not do, and which category is closed to you

## What should an ambassador agreement say?

The agreement is where an ambassadorship is won or lost, and it does not have to be long. It names what you will make and when, how long the role runs, how either side leaves, what the brand may do with your content and for how long, which categories you stay out of and at what price, and when you are paid. This guide gives no rates and no figures: the fee is a line you agree, and you are entitled to see every line separately. [The influencer contract clauses that change the price](https://vexo.club/blog/influencer-contract-clauses) explains each, and [usage rights](https://vexo.club/blog/usage-rights) explains why running your post as an ad is a separate right with its own fee.

**Figure: Terms in an ambassador agreement**

| Do | Don’t | Note |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Ask for every deliverable and every right as its own line | Accept one bundled number | |
| Name the category and the dates for any exclusivity | Sign "exclusive" with no limits | |
| Write the end date of any right to run your posts as ads | Leave it as "for the campaign" | |
| Name your existing brand ties before you sign | Let a conflict surface after the first post | |
| Agree how you can leave, and what runs on after you do | Sign a role with no exit | |

## Do you have to disclose that you are a brand ambassador?

Yes. ASCI's [influencer guidelines](https://www.ascionline.in/social/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/ASCI-Influencer-Guidelines.pdf) say disclosure is required if there is any material connection between the advertiser and the influencer, and they list money, free products, discounts, trips and family or employment relationships among the examples. An ambassadorship is an ongoing connection, so the paid posts are labelled and the safe reading is that every post that mentions the brand is. ASCI also says a disclosure that sits only on a profile or in a bio is likely to be missed. The label goes on the post, upfront, and the Instagram tag is used in addition to it. [ASCI disclosure for brands](https://vexo.club/blog/asci-disclosure-rules-for-brands) sets out the placement.

## How does the vexo.club desk choose creators?

The desk chooses creators for a brief, whether it runs for one post or for months, and it uses the same checks for both. They are the ones the [creators page](https://vexo.club/for-creators) lists: an audit of audience authenticity and delivery record, then a call about what you want more of and what you will not endorse, then one written agreement. Applying takes two minutes, and the page asks for 10K followers on any one platform. The desk reviews applications every week, and everyone gets a reply: a yes, a no, or a not yet, with the reason.

**Figure: How joining the vexo.club roster works**

1. **Day 0** — Apply — Two minutes, one form
2. **Week 1** — Audit — Audience authenticity and delivery record
3. **Week 1 to 2** — Call — What you want more of, and what you will not endorse
4. **Week 2** — Sign — One agreement, terms in writing, a 30-day exit
5. **Ongoing** — Get briefed — Deals arrive scoped and priced. You say yes or no.

*Source: the desk's creators page. Joining is not a promise of briefs, and each deal is scoped and priced for you to accept or decline.*

What the desk offers is on the page: your own login from the day you join, payment on a published calendar counted from the client's payment, and a catalogue that stays yours unless a deal buys usage as a line you approve. It promises no deal, and no income. Each roster profile also says how the creator works with the desk, in words that match the record. [Toshi Singh](https://vexo.club/roster/toshi_cosmo_)'s profile says vexo.club holds a written exclusive agreement with them, for example, and [Divija Pandey](https://vexo.club/roster/divijapandeyy)'s says Divija is an independent creator the desk collaborates with brief by brief. The [roster labels](https://vexo.club/trust) explain the difference. A profile is a page you can link from your own bio.

Brands browse the roster by niche, which is how they look for ambassadors: [Fashion & Style](https://vexo.club/roster/niche/fashion-and-style), [Tech & Gadgets](https://vexo.club/roster/niche/tech-and-gadgets), [Fitness & Wellness](https://vexo.club/roster/niche/fitness-and-wellness), [Comedy & Entertainment](https://vexo.club/roster/niche/comedy-and-entertainment) and [Education](https://vexo.club/roster/niche/education), among others. The whole list is on the [roster](https://vexo.club/roster). A creator who wants to be considered applies on the [creators page](https://vexo.club/for-creators#apply), and a brand that wants an ambassador-style relationship sends the desk a [brief](https://vexo.club/contact).

## Questions brands ask

**How do I become a brand ambassador?** Keep to one niche, pull your own audience exports, make a one-page media kit, pitch a few brands that fit, and agree the terms in writing. Label every paid post, ambassador posts included. Nothing guarantees a deal, and a brand picks for fit and delivery record.

**How many followers do I need to become a brand ambassador?** No number settles it. Meta's eligibility page asks for a "sufficient follower base" and gives no figure, and the vexo.club application asks for 10K followers on any one platform, which is the desk's own rule for its roster. Brands read audience fit and delivery record more closely than the count.

**Do brand ambassadors get paid?** Terms differ: money, product or both, agreed brand by brand. This guide gives no figures. Ask for each deliverable and each right as its own line, and get the terms in writing before you post.

**Is a brand promoter the same as a brand ambassador?** The words are used loosely. In India "brand promoter" is sometimes a person who promotes a product in person, and "ambassador" is more often an ongoing creator role. Ask what the role covers, and get it in the agreement.

**Do I have to say I am a brand ambassador in my posts?** Yes. ASCI requires disclosure where there is a material connection, and an ongoing role with a brand is one. The label goes on the post, upfront, and not only in your bio.

**Does vexo.club promise me brand deals if I apply?** No. Every applicant gets a reply, a yes, a no or a not yet with the reason, and a creator who joins is briefed when a brief fits. Each deal arrives scoped and priced, and you can say yes or no.
